The story behind frames is often fascinating. This #Gothic style frame started as a picture taken in the 1960’s by Mario Broeders who owned a company called Frames For Collectors. My father Camilo Gonzalez worked for Mario and created frames from pictures taken at museums. The original profile for this frame was an Italian Cassetta style which made it difficult to do the carving. My fathers solution was to use this 2 part profile. The outer cap goes on after the carving which makes it much easier for the carver to work on. A 20th century solution for a 16th century frame. The frame was originally a 3 inch wide profile. We made this 5 ½ inch version in 1992 when a customer needed something bigger. Funny thing is this style is now widely accepted as an authentic 16th century reproduction. Now you know that at least part of it comes from the 60’s. ?
